Ready Rhode Island's. mission statement:  "...to protect lives and property when major disasters threaten public safety in Northern Rhode Island.."  Ready Rhode Island responds to two types of disasters - natural and man-made. Natural disasters are major snow and/or ice storms, floods, tornadoes and/or severe weather. Man-made disasters, also known as technological emergencies, may include hazardous material incidents, nuclear power plant accidents and other radiological hazards.”

Every year natural and man-made disasters randomly strike thousands of families all across the United States. The time may come when it may be our state or maybe even our town. Lives are changed forever. Families may lose the possessions, homes or even worse—their lives or the lives of those they hold dear.

We can’t change history, but, with your help, we can make a difference for disaster victims to get from one day to the next.
It’s not a job for everyone. It takes commitment. It takes training. It takes a hard working, caring community of individuals who are willing to answer the call for help.

Ready Rhode Island is a group of trained volunteers who participate in annual drills, training sessions and various exercises to better serve the community and surrounding areas by volunteering our time through mutual aid.

Following a major disaster, whether natural or man-made, first responders who provide fire and medical services will not be able to meet the demand for these services. Due to the number of potential victims, possible communication failures because of downed power lines or overloaded circuits, and road closures will prevent people from accessing emergency services they have come to expect. People will have to rely on each other for help in order to meet their immediate life saving and life sustaining needs.  Ready Rhode Island works in conjunction with state and local emergency service personnel to assist in times of need, and to help prepare the community for when that time may arise.
